2024 Wood Floor of the Year: Best in Color, Finish, and Textured Wood

A modern basketweave parquet wood floor consisting of blue-toned panels made from quartersawn white oak. Also included in the pattern are multi-species squares and a stunning border surrounding the entire floor! All pieces were hand-cut and custom-finished on-site.

To make the panels, two 6" x 22" quartersawn solid white oak planks were glued together and beveled on all sides.

The 5" squares have maple outlines, two black walnut triangles, and a bubinga cross strip, which created a secondary pattern. After installation, the edges of the squares were given freehanded bevels with a router to separate each species and create uneven lines, imitating a natural wood edge.

All bevels, along with the surfaces were hand-scraped.

On the white oak panels, Pre-Aging "Fumed Intense" was first used to treat the wood and give it a very dark grey look. Once dry, it was finished with Oil Plus 2C "Midnight Indigo".

For the squares, Oil Plus 2C "White" was used to finish the maple outlines, while Oil Plus 2C "Walnut" was used to finish the walnut and bubinga pieces. All 103 squares on this floor were finished individually by hand.

The entire floor spans 380 square feet!
